For every screen, there is an ergonomic solution

Do you suffer from RSI complaints, eye complaints or neck and back pain? You're not the only one. Research shows that, over the years, there has been an increase in physical complaints that are attributed to screen work. A well-equipped workplace plays an important role in the prevention of strain complaints. Whether you work at a desktop, a laptop, a tablet or with multiple screens: there is a suitable ergonomic solution for every screen. But how do you know which option is best for you?

Basic rules for screens

Whatever screen you use, make sure you adjust it to suit your physical requirements. Pay attention to the following:

1. Position of the screen: Always set the screen directly in front of you. This prompts you to sit upright.

2. Screen height: Place the top of the screen at eye level. This prevents a hunched posture.

3. Viewing distance: Place the screen at the correct viewing distance (50-70 cm from the screen to the eyes).

4. Display settings: Adjust the display settings such as the colour and the resolution.

5. Reflection: Avoid annoying reflections on the screen.

 

DESKTOP, LAPTOP OR TABLET?

Do you work at a desktop? Choose a monitor raiser as a low-budget solution. However, if you want more flexibility, a monitor arm is the best option. It is height-adjustable and can rotate, tilt and move the screen nearer or further away. The simplest monitor arms only need setting up once. There are also gas spring monitor arms that can quickly place the screen (or multiple screens) in any desired position.

Do you work more than 2 hours a day on a laptop? Make sure you raise the screen and use a separate keyboard and mouse. At a fixed workstation, use a docking station and connect your laptop and input devices into it. Do you prefer working with a laptop? If so, choose a laptop raiser. When purchasing, pay attention to its adjustment range, stability, size and weight. There are laptop raisers for fixed workstations, and raisers that are easily portable. There are even integrated models that you can attach to the laptop yourself.

 

Do you use a tablet? Firstly, it is important to note that this carries additional health risks. Safeguard your health and do not use the tablet for longer than 30 minutes at a time. At a fixed workstation, place the tablet in a monitor arm. This enables you to set the tablet screen at eye level. There are also tablet raisers on the market that bring your tablet up to eye level. Do you use the tablet in several different places and on the go? Then a mobile tablet raiser is the best solution.
