Dynamic Working

It is now recognised that prolonged sitting is bad for your health. That is why companies and organisations are increasingly interested in dynamic working. But how do you put this into practice?

It is important to be able to switch easily from a seated position to any other working position. Firstly, adopt the correct posture to suit the task, choose the appropriate device (monitor, laptop, tablet or smartphone) and use the right
tools. For example, if you need to read a document, it is best to use a large screen or paper instead of your smartphone. If you need to consult with a colleague, it is better to stand or have a walking meeting during the discussion. Did you know that brain activity during walking is greater than during sitting? Therefore, a walking meeting is much more effective.

The Health Council states that "the promotion of exercise should be taken into account when designing the physical environment, which would accomplish a permanent change in exercise behaviour”. However, our work environment is often arranged in such a way that it stimulates sitting. The challenge is to set up the office with different workspaces that stimulate movement and variety between sitting, standing (or using a standing support) and walking. You can use various dynamic tools, such as the wobble stool, desk bike, a balance ball chair, active office mat, balance board, desk treadmill, standing aid and dynamic office chair.

A clever office design will unconsciously stimulate you to incorporate natural movement into your way of working.
