Is sitting unhealthy?

A quick breakfast at the dinner table and then off in your car to work. At the office, sitting at the computer all day, interspersed with a few meetings or client visits. Then off in your car back home, to end up on the couch in front of the television at night.

Unfortunately for many of us, this is a recognisable scenario. Because we sit around a lot… Did you know that the Netherlands are the European champion in sitting? In no other country does such a large proportion (62%) of the population sit for more than 5.5 hours a day.

It is now common knowledge that a lot of sitting can cause health problems. Nowadays Dutch employees, who work with computer screens, are buried under statements that sitting is life-threatening and can even be compared with smoking. And because we consider a healthy lifestyle increasingly important, we take these statements seriously.
